Schuyler County Family Fit Fest

On Saturday, September 29th, SCCUDD joined other health and wellness organizations in the community for the Schuyler Family Fit Fest. At the event, SCCUDD members offered fun activities to engage community parents and youth in a conversation about youth drug use prevention. We discussed topics like over-the-counter medication safety and ways to talk to children about alcohol. Volunteers also engaged the public with activities and games like the Wheel of Misfortune and Drunk Buster goggles. SCCUDD talked to over 110 people within the three-hour event and even gained a new coalition member!

Bradford Resource Fair

Early in October, SCCUDD members representing six organizations put on a resource fair for 5th-8th graders at Bradford Central School District. Activities included:

  • Drunk Busters Goggles with the Council on Alcoholism & Addictions of the Finger Lakes
  • Youth Court Information by Youth Court
  • Salsa Making with Hidden Valley 4-H
  • OTC Medicine Safety with SCCUDD
  • Information about laws and probation from Schuyler County Probation
  • Tobacco Trivia with the Southern Tier Tobacco Awareness Coalition (STTAC)

Together, we reached over 70 students, including several who took home applications to join STAND, SCCUDD’s youth committee. Thanks to everyone who volunteered!

Annual Meeting

Are you ready for SCCUDD’s annual meeting? The coalition will gather on November 13th from 3:00pm-4:30pm at The Silver Spoon Café in the Human Services Complex (323 Owego St in Montour Falls). Light refreshments will be provided. This meeting will feature Kelli Keck, Vice President of Epiphany Community Services. Kelli has over 15 years of experience in the non-profit and public sector. She currently serves as our coalition evaluator and helps SCCUDD measure our progress, build our capacity, and make sure we are properly capturing our impact on the community. For this meeting, Kelli will help us create logic models to get a better picture of youth substance use in Schuyler County. These models will help determine future direction for the coalition and will be used in our application for another 5-year Drug Free Communities Support Grant. We need your input! Please RSVP by emailing ddalmat@co.schuyler.ny.us or calling (607) 535-8129.
